Rafael F.C. Vieira, DVM, Ph.D.
Rafael F.C. Vieira is an Associate Professor of One Health in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health and the Center for Computational Intelligence to Predict Health and Environmental Risks (CIPHER) at UNC Charlotte. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, a residency in Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostics, and a Master’s and PhD from Federal and State universities in Brazil. Previously, Dr. Vieira was an Assistant Professor of Zoonosis and Epidemiology at the Federal University of Paraiba and later an Associate Professor of One Health, Zoonoses, and Epidemiology of Vector-Borne Diseases at the Federal University of Parana, where he also chaired the Graduate Program in Veterinary Sciences. His research focuses on vector-borne and transboundary zoonotic diseases, the ecoepidemiology of ticks and tick-borne agents, pathogen discovery, and One Health. He collaborates globally and serves as a board member of the African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN) and an affiliated member of the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) at Ohio State University, as well as the Global One Health Academy (GOHA) at North Carolina State University. His work includes over 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
