Dr. Monika Sawhney completed her Ph.D. in International Health at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Dr. Sawhney completed two Master’s degree in (i) Social Work and (ii) Human Resources Management (with a focus on Non-profit sector). She also has received certifications from World Health Organization for management of communicable diseases in emergencies, Certification from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with regard to Ebola in Context: Understanding Transmission, Response and Control, and from Population Reference Bureau for population policy communication.

Dr. Monika Sawhney is presently working as an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, NC, USA. Dr. Sawhney also served as an Associate Professor and Director of Bachelors of Public Health Program at Marshall University. She also served as a Clinical Associate Professor with Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (Department of Cardiology Services). At Tulane University, she also coordinated various Public Health projects including the polio work in Ethiopia, women’s empowerment and choice of modern family planning methods project, the Telehealth project, strategic evaluation of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) endpoints and patient preference measures in osteoporosis as well as on health services and outcome research in the USA.

Currently, Dr. Sawhney also serves on the Global Burden of Disease expert team where she works on assessment of various health outcomes and diseases.

In the course of her career, Monika also worked as a consultant for UNICEF, WHO, and John Snow Inc. in program implementation and evaluation projects. Working in Ethiopia with WHO and CDC, she coordinated and managed the measles immunization campaign and also helped the ministry strengthen their health system by focusing on designing and implementing training programs for their health staff working at different levels.

Working with Clinton Global Initiative University, Monika honored her commitment to saving orphan and vulnerable children in India. Her initiative involved collaborating with a Not-for-profit organization to start the diarrhea management center.

On several occasions, she has received awards for her research and field work in the area of Global Health. Dr. Monika’s professional and research interests are in the areas of demographic and health issues with related to community health with a special focus on maternal and child health, reproductive health, immunizations, human resources for the health sector, & strengthening of health systems.

Dr. Sawhney has rich and extensive research, field, and teaching experiences in Austria, China, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Tanzania, and United States.
