Chris Maher leads the Research Computing team at The University of North Carolina Charlotte. They provide high performance computing and analytics capability and expertise to the University research and teaching community. He began his career as an experimental physicist at Carnegie Mellon University, where he completed his BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees. His thesis experiment was conducted at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. After a postdoctoral appointment at MIT, he returned to Carnegie Mellon at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. He became interested in the commercial world, which led him on a path to an IBM subsidiary, IBM, Lenovo and a small startup. At IBM he led High Performance Computing product development and the creation of some of the world’s largest supercomputers.
